In a world divided into four kingdoms, each representing a season, strange events threaten peace. The Quadeities, deities of each realm, assign roles to inhabitants, and adventurers embark on a journey to discover their destinies, traveling across kingdoms seeking answers.

Characters can take on up to three different roles, offering a wide array of talents, effects, and outfits. The turn-based combat allows players to charge special orbs and use the Act Over ability to perform up to four actions consecutively. The charming pixel graphics in this fantasy JRPG offer delightful entertainment.

STORY

Chroma Quaternion explores themes of fate, whether embraced or challenged. The world’s inhabitants are bound by roles given by four deities (the Quadeities), each presiding over a season (or realm). Through maidens in each kingdom, deities assign roles to citizens. While role assignment is final, individuals must make the best of their roles. Ambitious individuals can take on multiple roles, but must receive the deities' blessing.

Ark and Foura notice strange weather in their town of Furyu, prompting them to join forces with the princess and her maid (Evaile). The phenomena might be linked to disturbances with their kingdom's deity, leading the group to investigate.

The story begins with unexpected twists and intriguing details about the events leading to the game. The narrative skillfully conceals the true antagonist for a time, and even as revelations occur, further twists keep the plot dynamic. Chroma Quaternion avoids love triangles or romantic entanglements among main characters, focusing instead on individual perseverance. This extends to certain adversaries, whose backstories are both surprising and poignant.

Despite its merits, Chroma Quaternion struggles to distinguish itself among KEMCO's RPG offerings. The plot is unremarkable, and the characters lack the depth seen in EXE Create's finest works. While competent, it doesn't achieve greatness.

GAMEPLAY

Chroma Quaternion is a turn-based JRPG following Ark, Foura, Eara, and Evaile as they explore the world's four kingdoms to uncover recent events and learn about themselves. Roles, akin to jobs/classes in other RPGs, drive character progression. Each character starts with one role but can quickly expand to three roles across three slots. Roles level up using RP instead of EXP.

As a character's role level increases, new abilities and passives are unlocked, along with a primary stat boost at each level. Although these boosts are minor compared to the larger stat increases, they are appreciated. Each role can reach level 100, but excitement diminishes after level 40. The majority of role-specific skills are learned between levels 1-20, with only one skill available at level 40. Beyond this, only minor pass
